Halverson Hunts
Here's a pheasant hunting fact of life. If you have habitat in South Dakota, you'll have pheasants, and for more than a decade, this state has had lots of pheasants. However, what the government giveth, the government can also taketh away and most experts believe the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) won't last forever. And that's why, barring the worst of spring storms, there'll always be great pheasant hunting on the Halverson farm, a working farm/ranch near Kennebec in south central South Dakota. My first reaction when hunting the Halverson farm was, "Wow, this CRP really makes a difference," as I scanned the grassy landscape and the waves of ringnecks that kept flushing ahead of us. Then I learned it wasn't CRP. Instead, it was the Halverson commitment to wildlife. For 16 years, Steve Halverson and his family have been offering the finest pheasant hunting in America. And let me emphasize this. These are WILD birds, not tame, fat, slow-flying pen-raised imitations of pheasants. This is not a preserve and in a typical day, you can expect to see several hundred birds. Maybe even a thousand. This is no fancy pheasant lodge offering gourmet meals and posh surroundings. This is a real pheasant hunt on a farm that harvested over a thousand birds last fall. The farm is operated by fourth generation Lyman County, SD farmers and everything they do on this farm is geared for pheasants. They have great winter and nesting cover and each year, they develop more If you want the pheasant hunt of a lifetime, email Steve Halverson; steve@halversonhunts.com or visit their website, www.pheasantsrus.com.
