ALDO LEOPOLD WEEKEND
As the lead Senate sponsor of legislation declaring the first full weekend of each March as Aldo Leopold Weekend in the state of Wisconsin, it is with great pride and satisfaction that I announce the following events being held in the 11th Senate District. (The 11th Senate District includes most of Walworth County and portions of Jefferson, Waukesha, and Kenosha Counties in Southeastern Wisconsin.)

EVENT #1
WHAT: Lake Geneva Reads Leopold
HOURS: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
WHERE: Lake Geneva Public Library
DETAILS: Readings of select essays from Leopold’s “A Sand County Almanac”
Readers include: State Senator Neal Kedzie, State Rep. Tom Lothian, Walworth County Sheriff David Graves, Audrey Greene – Walworth County Lakes Specialist, Jim Celano – Director of the Geneva Lakes Conservancy, Linda Bendix – Director of the Lake Geneva Public Library, Richard Drieser – Outreach Coordinator – Yerkes Observatory, and many others.

WHAT: Choice of hikes, Re-dedication of Museum, and bus tour
HOURS: 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
WHERE: Kettle Moraine South; Ice Age Trail; Jefferson Tamarack Swamp State Natural Area; LuLu Lake State Natural Area
DETAILS: 11:00 a.m. - Meet at Forest Headquarters for
a guided bird hike, or
a guided hike on the Ice Age Trail and nearby trails, or
a bus tour of the Jefferson Tamarack Swamp State Natural Area
1:30 p.m. - Return to Forest Headquarters for light refreshments.
2:00 p.m. - Join Assistant Senate Majority Leader Neal Kedzie (R-Elkhorn), Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Transportation Committee and DNR Secretary Scott Hassett to celebrate the inaugural Aldo Leopold Weekend and new museum exhibit.
2:30 p.m. - Take a bus tour of the new property addition to the LuLu Lake State Natural Area.
Join us for all or part of the day. A vehicle admission sticker is not required for these free events.
Forest Headquarters is located at S91 W39091 Highway 59 in Eagle.

WHAT: Rock River Basin Citizen’s Monitoring Confluence
HOURS: 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
WHERE: Jefferson County UW-Extension Jefferson, Wisconsin
DETAILS: Informative workshops and certification for citizens interested in monitoring rivers and streams in the Rock River Basin.

WHAT: Guided hike through LuLu Lake Conservation Area
HOURS: Begins at 1:00 p.m. (Advance registration required)
WHERE: LuLu Lake Conservation Area – near East Troy
DETAILS: Scott Thompson, Director of Conservation for Eastern Wisconsin Region of The Nature Conservancy will lead a guided hike through the area. The hike will include a discussion of TNC’s conservation goals, work protecting the unique fish and plants of the Mukwonago River Watershed, and TNC’s work combating invasive species that threaten the native species in the area and throughout Wisconsin.
Participants will gain firsthand knowledge of plants and animals, which make the LuLu Lake area one of Wisconsin’s unique conservation areas.
