Missouri River Fishing Report SDGLA
Lake Oahe
Fishing in the Pollock area has slowed, but anglers are still getting limits. Those fishing early in the morning are doing the best. Leeches and crawlers are the bait being used around 15 or more feet.
At Mobridge fishing has also slowed, but is still very good for this time of year, with some days being slower than others. Bait consists of crawlers and leeches, with some anglers using crankbaits in about 20-30 feet of water.
Fishing at Akaska is a little slower. This past weekend anglers brought in three 10 pound walleye. Spinners and plugs are working the best. The South Dakota Walleye Classic and Festival will be held in the area August 27-29. For more information go to www.sdwalleyeclassic.com.
Fishing has also slowed in the Gettysburg area and it will take a bit more work to get that limit. A 9 ½ pound walleye was caught over the weekend. Crawlers and leeches are working well in addition to plugs. Anglers are fishing deep in 25 plus feet of water. Smallmouth fishing is still good.
Lake Oahe (Lower end)
On the lower end of Oahe, in the Spring Creek area, the walleye bite is good with anglers using crawlers, leeches and crankbaits - fishing around 20-25 feet. Salmon fishing has been good - spoons and squid seem to work best in about the 60 plus foot depth. Smallmouth fishing is very good.
Lake Sharpe
Fishing is still good on Lake Sharpe, but has slowed some. Anglers are fishing in 18-25 feet of water. Fish are being caught from Counselor Creek to West Bend on crawlers and leeches. Smallmouth bite has slowed on Lake Sharpe until closer to mid-September. During July and August the 15 inch minimum length for walleye is not in effect. The limit is four fish daily, with no more than one fish over 20 inches.
Lake Francis Case
On Lake Francis Case fishing has also slowed, with walleye being caught from Chamberlain to the Dam. Crawlers and leeches seem to work the best. The walleye limit is four fish daily, with no more than one fish over 20 inches. During July and August the 15 inch minimum length is not in effect. Smallmouth fishing here has also been excellent.
The walleye bite was slow over the weekend in the Platte Creek area. Best fishing is south of the Platte/Winner bridge – in the Platte Creek/Wheeler area. Crawlers and leeches are still the bait being used.
In the Pickstown area, walleye fishing up on the lake has been good from South Shore to Joe Bay and the regular hot spots with a bottom bouncer and spinner with a minnow, leech or crawler. The walleye are in the 20 foot depth. Some anglers are getting walleye long line trolling crankbaits and leadline trolling. Cat fishing is going good above and below the dam.
Lewis & Clark Lake
White bass are hitting on the lake around Gavins Point Dam on crawlers and crankbaits. Walleye fishing is slower and somewhat spotty. Lots of catfish are being caught between Colony and Santee, using sponge bait or worms.
